What a great weekend! What a horrible weekend!

I arrived late Friday night and set up my pits along the far west side, next to the short straight between 1 and 2. Sat. morning I settled into spectator mode and watched a great day of racing, including Beck owning Perez all day, beating Hayes by .1sec in the Toyota cup race, and winning 6 of the 7 races he entered. Beck stepped it up this weekend!

Sunday starts and I go out for warm up. I had new tires so I took it easy and just had fun. My race was up around 10:15a, so Jason ripped off the tire warmers on final call, just as a light sprinkle started. He says, “go for it, rain messes with people’s head”, and so I did. Starting from 4th position, inside front row is my best starting position ever. Flag drops and I went. I was all by myself going into 1, and flew into 2 faster than ever before. I was passed between 5 and 6, put my head down and let him tow me around. Turn 4, second lap, I lost him, as he was far faster than me through 3, 4, and 5, but I continued to push since no one else had shown me a wheel, and I wanted to keep it that way. White flag comes out and the leader has a big lead on me, and I don’t want to look back to see if I have any gap, so I push hard on the last lap… Too hard I guess. Exiting 4b, I roll on the throttle and the bike goes zing, but I don’t! False neutral? I hit the shifter but nothing. As I coast down to 5, staying far to the right, I look down to see if my chain had come off…nope! As I round 5, I’m thinking “Damn I still haven’t been passed yet, where’s 3rd place?” I pull off by the turn 6 corner worker and finally get passed. As I roll to a stop, I look down to discover the front sprocket nut had backed off and my front sprocket was no longer on the output shaft!

I had 2nd locked up, but DNF’d due to mechanical… I was pissed, but I’ll see you all next month!

Damn, sorry bro. I almost cried this year when i had my DNF. I know how bad it feels especially when you are feeling good/doing good. Are you moving up to expert this year or gunna sandbag novice till next year like me??
