wow, what an awsome weekend bouncing happy
arrived on saturday morning with shaggy to meet jerry and his buddy steve at our pit set up. i was not practicing saturday but was there to help out greg, allen, steve and mikey in new racer school. i went ahead and signed up for practice starts since it is only $10 and i could use the practice. so my first two start went pretty well and i tried to stick in behind some expert riders on the lap to help me for sunday. the third start also went very well and this session we get to do like 4 laps so i wanted to use the time to get a feel for the track again and start getting my times down for sunday. as i crest turn 6 for the first time at speed my tach just goes to red line.......the clutch is just spinning:cry:  . i continue and on the next lap it does it again wtf . so i go ahead and pull off so i don't roast the clutch since it only had like 2k miles on it anyway and head to the pits to tell mechanic shaggy whats up. he gets down to business and had my clutch out in like 2 minutes  . we find the clutch is still fine and that the clutch cable was just too tight and leaving the clutch partially disengaged causing it to spin. so i was happy to hear that, grabbed a beer and settled in for the night.
sunday morning comes and it is another beautiful day. first practice goes very well and the clutch is fine. i follow jerry around to tow me down to some better times and i improve from my not so great 1:35's from earlier in the year to 1:33's in first warm up, i was happy with that. i come in and make a few suspension adjustments and head out for warm up #2 and follow a few expert guys and pull the times down even farther to 1:31's, this made me very happy as those times are good enough to win the novice race. so we come into the pits and hang out at turn one and watch some racing as our race was second to last of the day.
race time comes and me and jerry take a nice quick warm up lap to get the tires going. i was gridded #7 which was a great spot, second row inside of the track. jerry was gridded #2 and he has the best starts so i knew i had to hang with him in the start to have a chance at the lead. i go a good start and come into turn one in 3rd behind jerry and one other rider. i have the guy in turn two and drive right passed him into turn 3 and me and jerry start to pull away from the pack. the gap between jerry and i remained at about a second until lap 4 when i caught a false neutral down shifting and coasted into turn one at speed yikes . i scrubbed off speed and found my gear and saved it before going off the track. i now lost about 2 seconds on jerry and had to play catch up. the rest of the race goes well and i pull to under 2 seconds back but that is all i could manage taking an easy second place with jerry cruising to 1st place. it was and awsome race and we kept the 1:31 pace to pull from the pack.
congrats jerry on your 1st place finish and you were riding awsome. congrats to all our buddys getting their license and doing their first race. special thanks to shaggy for all the help and to steve from Grip and balance for letting me use the generator, that was huge. well expert will be coming up here soon and we will be out with the big boys....til next time... :) :squid:
almost forgot, special thanks to all the supporters that came out today to cheer us on. robert and son, roda and bro, deno, barry, sean, arnold, chuck and anyone i missed, thanks for all the support :)
