Yeah, get her someting lighter and that would be easier to learn on. I think an SV is a better choice compared to a Buell.

Just thinking here, but the Blast is 25.5 inches from the top of the seat (lower version) and the EX250 is 29.5. Now, she only stands 4'11", and anything we get will definitely need to be lowered. Just thinking by how much though...

If seat height/size is your main concern, then buy a decent bike [GS500] and lower it. Yeah the Blast is small and less intimidating, if you care about your girl you won't put her on a Buell. *Though the newer XB's are cool, I would still never spend my $ on one. Thats my word.

Ok.. here it goes.. my secret is revealed.
Since I had a chance to rock it for 5 or 6 sessions at Vegas, I have a secret passion for the Buell Lightning Long. I loved that the center of gravity was so much lower and it was much smoother than I thought it would be, even though the gearing was too short. It makes sense to make a bike symetrical weight wise, though, doesn't it?
So no laughing when I ride up on one someday; you know you'll all wanna ride it anyway to see what the big deal is. ;)
A lot of people like to bast (haha) on Buells cuz they don't know much about them, or because they're American. However, I'd say there are definitely different bikes for different people, and not every girl who's getting a new bike needs to get an EX 250, EX 500, or GS 500.
Do consider the cost of parts/repair on a Buell, and remember that we here at BuyMoto will have a very difficult time finding parts for you if you have a crash.

I say go for it, and tell her to give me a call so we can ride together!
btw.. I'm a 5'7" chick and had no problems with the weight or flat footin' any of the Buells.

you are correct on the larger buell bikes. great bikes in my book and getting much better. more torque than ANY liter class sports bike. that aside the blast needs a LOT of work to be a stable riding bike. motor is quirky at best in stock form. it's a sportster motor in half. after working on an few of them, i'm still trying to figure out which half they used! : )
they are not a rider friendly bike at all and i strongly discourage most people from getting them as a first bike. they CAN be made rider friendly but for a newer rider without a little bike savvy, they can be a real discouraging bike to ride.

if seat height is that big of a problem i strongly suggest a smaller or midrange cruiser.

I have not actually ridden one of these little suckers, but I remember one review saying that the Blast was built to 'a thin nickel'. I am certainly out numbered on this board for saying that I love Buells. I really appreciate what Erik Buell has done. However, that aside, I had a chance to take a close look at the Blast this weekend at the Long Beach Motorcycle Show. Outward appearances, it looks like a toy. I didn't ride it, but I did ride the XB9SX CITYX. It is hard to believe that these two bikes come from the same manufacturer. The kevlar belt on the Blast is so skinny it doesn't even cover the entire back cog. I haven't ever heard anything good about the Blast and I have been following Buell for atleast 4 years now. If you do get a Blast I would think used would be the way to go. You rarely see any (larger displacement) Buells for sale, but I can pull up Craigslist at any point and reel off about 6 listings for the Blast. I don't know if it is simply because they were bought as stepping stones or if they just suck.

Buy a Ninja 250 and slam it!

One other bike that looks promising, would be the Venox 250 by Kymco. http://www.strmotorsports.com/showroom/mcs/venox250/index.html I have seen one of these at the dealerships and I have sat on it. For the price, the fit and finish are impressive. It doesn't look like any Crappy Rebel or Eliminator. The feature set looks good and the shorty exhaust is neat. Best of luck.

I got to ride a buell at the Long Beach Motorcycle show, and I say, I loved it. It has a lot of low end grunt, though my R1 still has a lot more power. I rode the 1200, but the higher one, I was even almost tiptoeing, and I have long legs. I let my friend Mark take the last "city, or citi" which I guess is the lower buell. I think the Buell's look cooler than some of the japanese 500's and other bikes. I think the Japanese companies need to start making better looking small bike's for shorter people and some girls, so they can have fun too. Still, when I got back on my R1, it was no comparison though.

I've sat on a blast, and I'm 5'3". it fits really well. But I started on an ex500, and it worked out okay. It was a little tall for me, but that's why I got an older one--so i could drop it and not feel too bad. Blast is way shorter.
