A friend just informed me about Friday night drag racing at the Qualcomm stadium. Does anyone know of these events? He just mentioned it was 20-25 bucks to race all night and 5 bucks to spectate. He said bikes are allowed to run also. Anyone else interested in practicing their launches? Or, racing one another legally? Im not sure how often they hold these events, but I am down to check it out the next time the chance comes up. Anyway, just a few ideas for a group event/ride.

I been to that its like racelegal.com stuff

I just watched and it was pretty neat because some of the cars are pretty tight. I saw mostly highschool guys (few girls). Its worth it to go see at first what it is all about then decide if you want to participate.

I am not down with drag racing bikes anymore, rather drag my knee :)

Yeah, I'm not that into it, but I was there last friday with some friends. IT's always funny to see a Supra get owned by a Cobalt and a Viper getting beat by an SRT-4....

I've kinda wanted to try it on the bike, but I already know I kinda suck at launch and am not sure I want verification in front of everyone...

Ouch. Im a big supra enthusiast. Im an ex-owner. I wouldn't be surprised, though. Since srt-4 is awd, and i hear the track isnt all that long. Supras are heavy and takes quite a bit of skill to launch right. Even then, going up against an awd is sort of unfair on a track shorter than a quarter mile. The Supra is always playing catchup, but when those turbos spool... A good amount of supras you see are non-turbo also. Hate to admit, but a civic si can beat a na supra.

I am also not a big fan of dragging bikes, however, I think its good to know and test the limits of your bike. In saying this, i am definitely not as skilled as many of you riders are on this board. Thats probably why this kind of event would be beneficial to me and some other newer riders.

SRT4 is not awd and what do a 500 600 and 700 hp supra have in common all 12 second cars lol.

mike, something to consider... but why pay money to drag at the track when we can be our squidly selves and drag at the stoplight on mira mesa blvd at 10:00 tonight?

jk... interesting, i'd be down if we get some heads to go

Sorry, my mistake. For some reason i have always thought it was awd. My supra had low 400 hp and it was able to run 12s. I agree, though. 500-700 hp supras wouldnt run you a good time unless you had the skill to drive the car or can put that kind of power to the ground. At 400hp i was already spinning the rear wheels like crazy. I was running 295's in the back wrapped with nitto 555s. So, nothing shabby at all. Street tires do no justice for a supra with that kind of power. Haha, ok. Im done. Flame on my fellow :squid: 's

Joe,

I will be there at the stoplight waiting for you at 10 pm tonight. I will be there in beach wear. See you then.

i went last week... it was pretty cooldidn't race though. 20 bucks to race. but be ready to race a lot of Busa's.. if you have a R1,zx-10, gxsr1 you'll smoke all of them. they REALLY REALLY suck at starting. i'm going this friday too..( not racing)
hit up race legal.com....or pm me..

Brown, I will most likely be out of town so I dont think im gonna be able to make it this friday. I say we try and set one up next friday. Im not sure how frequent these events are, but if you can do us a favor and clue us in on the event details. If there is one next friday, I am sure we can gather a group that is down to roll.

Sounds intimidating to launch against a busa or any other bikes. Its going to be embarrassing considering i have never really launched my bike at a drag strip before.

Lets try to shoot for next friday if thats allright with everyone.

don't feel bad.... i have gone there and smoked G force and his bandit a couple of times about a year or so ago..good race actually!!
... i have seen guys on sixes beat plenty of liter bikes.... it all about the rider in 1/8th baby. if i had a truck i would go to burn of the rest of my slick..

don't think it has another track day in it.

Drag racing, let me tell you, takes time. But you sure learn a lot that you wouldn't know otherwise.

I can attest that it REALLY helps out the race starts at the line. I haven't raced yet at WERA or CCS, but when i was getting my license, there was me and 11 other people in a mock race. When the guy dropped the flag ( I was in the 4 row, only guy), I launched so hard on my 750 that I wizzed by everyone before the first corner, except for one guy that was going into my line. Decided not to chance it, and backed off and then he and I led the 4 lap mock race.

If you have a liter bike, do yourself a favor and come to the track with a full tank of gas. It's very difficult to keep the front end down unless you strap it (see Schnitz for that), and even then it's not easy.

Mph record so far is me riding Vince's Busa (6.30's at 121 mph). On my bike, i've gone as fast as 6.37 at 119. You're not going to see those numbers again because they've threatened to kick out any rider going above 115mph. I've seen bone stock K5's, fighing wheelies, turning in a 114 mph!!! But they also had very good riders.

Most sport bikes will be in the 100-110 mph range.

Don't worry about anything that is the other lane. You run YOUR race. If you pay attention at all to what is in the other lane, you're not concentrating on you. It really is rider. I've seen Gixxer 750's go 6.60's and Busa's with very inexperienced riders do high 7's. You're there for you and yeah it's a lot of fun, with lots of different experience levels.

Any bike is very difficult at launching, Busa's are easier, but intimidating. The key is, you want to get down to consistent 1.60's, 60 foot time. That will take a LOT of practice. Pro's will do high 1.5's on a lowered bike. Most people on there first time out will be doing 2.0-2.2 60 foots. Don't worry about it, we all started there. Practice practice practice.

i kinda like riding the wheelie in first gear for the first half of the strip...gotta get the bike back so i can burn up the centers on old race tires...hehe

For anyone who is interested, they are having Barona 1/8 this Saturday (2/25). Barona's a great track, sticky and prepped all the way down to the end. There are NO traction problems ever at that track.

What's up Mael!

powerban and i used to run there. its pretty fun, launching the bike. you get alot of runs too since you dont have to get in the cage line. its obviously better if you have a group.

for anyone interested in putting in a few runs. i have a pilot race h2 for sale that's perfect for drag. $40
