Ok I'm itching for another track day. One that isn't too far and one that I haven't done but always wanted to: California Speedway. Fast Track has either Jan 24 & 25th or Feb 21st & 22nd. Both are on Sat/Sun and both are on the AMA track. $210 for both day. . .not too bad! Who's down to attend, hands pls!

I believe that's $210 for either Saturday or Sunday. ;) But not too bad I guess.

$210 for one day  Plus if your first time there you have to take the Saftey School, no?

Bryant
12-16-2003, 11:26 PM
I don't think u have to take the safety school since you've been to trackdays before. That school is only for total newbs and others who are just wanting some instruction around that track. It's not a hard track to learn though.

"For everyhone's safety, all students without track experience must take our Safety School, and may advance to Level I upon approval. We may, at our discretion, waive this requirement if the rider can prove sufficient track experience."

You get a break in price if you have 4 people, at least one of which has been to the track before, and 3 of which have had track days. Call them and find out the pricing for that, definitely a good deal if you can get that many people. The track is expensive because the facilities are quite posh. It is a NASCAR-hosting venue, so the paddocks and bathrooms and everything are quite nice.

Unfortunately, January is too soon for me. I'm still juggling around finances to pay for my new front tire. I have yet to get on to this track, but I think Spring would be the earliest for me...

Let's shoot for the Feb session! Just like what Andre said, if we bring at least 4 with one that has been to CSW(Bryant) then we should be good. I always wanted to try this track out and it's the AMA track not the weak infield track.

Allan I'm shooting for Feb so it gives me time to save up on some $ and it'll be a little bit warmer.

Dude Zoran knows how to build a sv! I was watching him pass and pull on a GSXR 750 out there at SOW. Then when I asked him how the bike was running he said he didn't know yet because he hadn't opened it up yet the motor was just put in that morning.

ok just saw this on fast track riders website...its the ama course and it looks BORING....unless you got a motogp bike this course is gonna be not so fun....well to me any ways...

here you go tell me if this works...AMA onboard vid...watch out its a 41 MB file.... (http://www.fastrackriders.com/pages/PhotosVideos/FastTrackAMACourse.mpg)

try to right click and save not sure if it;ll work though

Bryant
12-26-2003, 02:40 AM
Wow.. whoever made that recording was going BUTT slow.. it does give you a good view of the track but it does nothing to let you see it at speed. The track is a lot more fun than it appears in that video. Definately looks different at speed for sure and a lot more fun!

Hmm.. i think there is a better video of that track somewhere... but it is for sure a lot of fun. I like that track quite a bit.... the only thing that track didn't have was any significant elevations changes other than getting up onto the NASCAR banking.

I've done both the AMA config and the infield course. My opinion.. the infield course is a lot of fun.... for the first 5-10 laps.. after that.. it gets EXTREMELY boring cuz it's so so so short. I dunno if they reconfigured it since the last time i rode the infield but yeah, it was pretty boring cuz it took less than 45 seconds i think... felt like 30 seconds to complete a lap! heh.. actually i think they did reconfigure it to make it a bit longer and a bit more challenging after receiving several comments regarding the initial config.

The AMA track was pretty fun... and it is definately safer than it used to be the 2nd time i went on that track... they changed two of the chicanes and the track flows a lot better than it used to. Try it.. i think you guys will like it.... the main thing is that the AMA config is pretty darn fast for the most part...

The infield is pretty slow.. not as fast as ButtonWillow and does not have any elevation changes. It's easy to learn and the surface is clean and smooooth (well last i was on it). It's an easy circuit to learn.

That track is really fun on a 600cc bike. :) A 600 can hang with a 1000 cc bike with both riders being about the same level.

Gearing your bike for any track will be different for every individual. A good rule of thumb I learned from John Pearson (who is currently racing in the Australian nationals series.. GO JOHN!!) is to gear your bike so that you barely hit the rev limiter at start/finish line in whichever gear is ideal for the speed you are going at that moment in time. For WSIR, u are in 6th gear and when u cross start-finish line... u are just shy of hitting the rev limiter when you are geared right for that track. this rule doesn't apply to every single track out there but I found it to be a useful starting point for any new track that I am learning.

For my R6 at CA Speedway, I pretty much kept the same gearing i had for WSIR at 15-48 without much of a problem.... I think 15-47 would have been better though as I was dancing around the rev limiter on the banking a few times. Liter bikes have LOTS of fun on the banking.. no doubt about that. ;p My R6 was well behaved on the AMA config.. the liter bike I had a bit of trouble keeping the front down in quite a few sections of that track.

Yeah Bryant, that was in slow motion (my speed), but here's one I found of Daryl smashing at Fontana. Highly compressed, so the quality isn't too shabby.

Tons of space is available for the 23rd.
Not planning on doing WERA.
since AMS is closed, I doubt they'll be doing a WERA round there, and I heard the LV round was cancelled.

A little info from the track day organizer:

Fastrack February Events Update

Fastrack Riders January event was totally sold out a week
before the event with several groups being sold out three
weeks in advance. It was cool on Saturday but the
weatherman was wrong and it never rained! Sunday was
absolutely a gorgeous day to ride!

Everyone liked the new three group rotation format. All
riders got eight twenty minute session minus any lost time
for crashes. A number of riders stated they got over 170
miles for the day.

Our next event is February 21st and 22nd!

It is filling up fast! We have limited spaces available for
Saturday and Sunday so take advantage and sign up early or
you might be turned away!

The Novice Rider School is sold out for Saturday!

On Sunday we will only have access to Garages One & Two!

We will be observing WERA flag procedures so it is important
all riders not in the Novice Riders School to attend the
Riders meeting.

Remember fuel at the track is $5.00 per gallon. We urge you
to bring your own. L&L Motorsports will be there with VP
Racing Fuel.

Dunlop and Pirelli tire vendors will be there for both days.

25. What happens if I cannot make it to the event I signed up for because of some unexpected last minute change?

Fastrack Riders Association reserves the right to change policy without notice. Credits will be issued to riders canceling 72 hours in advance of an event minus a $50.00 processing fee. The credits will be issued within fifteen days after conclusion of the event registered for. Any rider that cancels after the 72 hour time-frame has expired will receive a carry over credit good for ninety (90) days minus a $100.00 processing fee to be used at a future event. FRA requires a non-refundable $150 security deposit for will-call riders. FASTRACK RIDERS ASSC. has a "Rain or Shine" policy meaning we do not cancel events due to rain or wind. I further agree not to take legal action with respect to payment disputes. There will be no exceptions! Rider grants FRA and its agents permission to use rider's image and/or likeness in connection with any photograph, video display, or other transmission or reproduction in whole or part of the event. There is a $50 returned check fee, and we will exercise every legal means possible to collect, without exception.

26. Do you run your events in the event of rain or inclement weather?

Yes, FASTRACK RIDERS maintains a "rain or shine" policy, meaning we run regardless of any weather conditions excluding snow or ice on the track.

Bryant
02-19-2004, 12:36 PM
Let's see.. I need to know whether you guys plan on going rain or shine by today if possible cuz tomorrow will be within the 72 hour period that will cost an additional $50 to cancel should we do that. If you guys still plan on going, let's get the ride thing set up for everyone. :)

Ok hold the press....I just got off the phone with Fast Track Riders and Dana the young and very helpful lady there informed me of this:
The rain or shine policy will be in effect on Sunday, BUT here is the deal; If you cancel before the 72 hours than you get a carry over credit minus 50 bucks, cool we knew that.
BUT they do NOT allow riding in the rain, SO if you show up the day of the event and it is raining than at that point they will give you a carry over credit minus 20 bucks which is less than if you cancel now. I can only pray it won't rain and that it is only a false alarm and show up Sunday. So that being said I will be there rain or shine or sleet or hail or hurricane or well you get the point :-p

We are getting many calls about the weather and our events that have
scheduled for this weekend. Here is the latest. Saturday and Sunday
are a
go and you must show up to the event and if it is a rain out we will
call it
at the track in the morning and you will receive a carry-over credit
minus a
small deposit good for 90 days. If you choose not to show up you will
forfeit all money paid based on our rain or shine policy. Even if you
think
it's raining @ the track you still must show up. If we call off the
event
prior to the morning of the event we will e-mail you or call you to let
you
know. But again if you don't hear from us you should plan on showing
up or
you will forfeit all money.

As you know the weather is unpredictable. In January they had
forecasted
rain for the whole weekend and it ended up being great weather. On
Saturday
it rained 15 miles away but never at the track so you can never tell
where
it's going to rain. We may just have 2 overcast days so keep your
fingers
crossed and hope for the best.

See you this weekend.

Thanks,
Fastrack Riders

Bryant

That part about "Plan on showing up or you will forfeit all money" is contradictory to their written policy #25. However, they did indicate that they have a right to change this policy whenever they want...

There are no refunds, but usually if someone cancels early enough we can sell their spot, and get that rider their full refund.. Otherwise we just issue a carry-over

Cesar, John, I got a call personally from David Pyles. He said that he will carry over everyone's credits with no penalties. Fastrack will absorb a $3000 penalty on their own to reschedule. David has always been a straight up standup fellow. He has never wronged me or my friends in any way. They made a final judgement call for this weekend due to safety concerns because of the forecast of HEAVY rains so instead of making everyone drive up and waste time wondering how hard it's going to rain since IT IS going to rain regardless... they decided to axe the event. The emails they sent out were a bit unpredictable, but so is the weather. I'm sure they didn't want to lose $3k and wanted to figure out the best solution from a business/money perspective... but in the end, they understand that keeping their customers happy (despite the fact that the forecast was not their fault and they got no control over mother nature's course), and to run the safest event possible that they decided to take the hit themselves and allow us to have our fun another day without taking a chunk of our money to cover the penalties. No need to try to sell your spot to someone else, etc. Sunday and possibly Monday are to experience the heaviest rains and windage. If the forecast was simply showers.. they would probably still run the event since the conditions are ok if you run rain tires and possibly DOT's but at a much slower pace.

Anyway, I don't know if he called you guys or not but I told him that I'd let you know that they are going to eat the $3k fee to cancel the event themselves and allow us to reschedule with them on another trackdate with better weather (hopefully). I don't think Fastrack deserves any bad rap for how they ended up handling this weekend. It's unfortunate for everyone but at least we all stay dry and happy and not have lost any money (except for Fastrack that is....).

Thanks for the update BK! I did in fact get the call and I very much understand that business is business and actually appreciate that they are "looking out" for us in and sense. I wouldn't want to ride in the rain regardless and I am sure I am not alone in feeling that way. Please don't think that I was trying to vex Fastrack, I was merely wanting to "get my track on" Hopefully we can all agree on a venue for the up and coming track days and double the fun owed to us!

If it comes down to it, I will buy your credits (in the full amount) from you so you won't have to worry about it while you are away serving our country! Hopefully someday you'll be able to move back to Sandy Eggo on a more permanent basis. :) But regardless, you will always have Hypercycles with you wherever you go!

Thank you sir! I appreciate it but as it stands right now I should be ok, I'll let you know though
I am not actually leaving until the first week of May and I might still be able to squeeze in a track day between now and than. I had read some posts about doing a track day in March or April, anything for sure yet?
