A few years back, there was all the talk of a 1/4 mile track going in in SD, down by the border. Nothing now. Then, Barona opened an 1/8 mile, and it looked to be that they were going to gear towards street racers. Went up about the same time SD started cracking down on illegal street racing. Opening day was dismal, but good for the racer. Only like 100 cars entered, and 20 of them were street vehicles. Now, they just run the local wannabe dragracers (ok, they've got money tied up into the cars so they're a little more than wannabes). Guess they overestimated the guys doing illegal racing. Guess they thought that if they provided an outlet, they would come. Too far into the mountains, and it doesn't have the aura of getting caught. Don't get me wrong, when I was into it, I preferred Barona to Qualcomm. Better facility, better surface!
I'ld like to think that this would come to term, but as posted in the link I'm a little jaded also. The politicians, lawyers and insurance company have all gotten into bed together and have made something like this so incredibly expensive, that only the insanely rich or criminally stupid could start it up. It would be more cost effective to buy enough land, build your own personal track and only let your friends ride on it due to the amount of insurance.
In Pensacola, I was one of the "big" guys in the local and regional Mustang Club. I organized the racing events in the area, and just to have a few (30-40) Mustangs on even the local podunk .5 mile, we had to have 6 mil in insurance. Even with waivers!
Honestly, I hope it happens. My son and I have to travel 200+ miles to race with his association, and I forsee it to start getting really expensive. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

As I posted in the socalsportbikes forum there was suppose to open up a motorsports park in 2003, Rubios was the prime sponser of this endevour and Ralph has a ton of money thanks to myself and my brother im sure of it. There was argument over where it was suppose to be located, first was down near otay but then investors started backing out, they had the land zoned I believe and then made it into that off road dealio they have now. Then they wanted to do it near miramar, the govt was going to sell some of its land from the base to make this happen but then land survey deemed that it was not safe because of that nice little landfill we have over there, plus it would be to expensive cause as we all know every couple years they have to redo the 52 at that area because the landfill makes the ground bluge up. Supposedly they may build this up in the north county area. I would nto be surprised if it was out near Harrahas casino as there is tons of land out there and it is somewhat level, plus indian reservations have different laws that US and locals as they are soverign nations. I do hope that this all fabricates but im nto going to hold my breath as we all know people in san diego just want tons of houses built all over and that is why Carlsbad raceway closed down (and so did a small part of me). Oh and hey no control, yes it is going to get even more expensive but isnt the smile on yer kids face worth every cent.

I should scan the pic I took 10 minutes after he low sided it doing 50 and then got run over by the guy behind him! He didn't have too much of a smile then. But, at the end of the second heat, and at the end of the day, he was all smiles because he's now a real motorcycle racer! (At least the beginning of one).

I think the best best would be to build a go-kart track and use it for supermoto... Of course, if you built that big enough, what would stop you from using real bikes on it, too....?
