View Full Version : Getting tired of living on the Ranch

Anyone that knew me last summer knows I lived on Point Loma, but now I'm shacked up at my bosses ranch in Ramona. I must say that although the rent is cheap, taking care of his horses is a ROYAL PAIN IN THE TAIL!!
Don't get me wrong they are beautiful animals (all 6) and are quite smart, but after a month of feeding them and cleaning up I am totally happier I dont have one. I much rather put gas in my bike and not have to watch my step walking around it when I get on/off.
Days start with me feeding them before my 1 hour commute and end the same way; this is getting old.
Anyone else know what a pain it is to take care of a live ride?

just be glad they don't need to go to soccer and karate at the end of the day.
tip my hat to ya for keeping up with it.

Darrin, I really do like them I just can't stand how much they eat and shyt all the DAM TIME!
its cool when I put my old a* boots on and play soccer with them, but when I am half awake shoveling hay in the morning wearing my full gear to hit the road and my SMX boot gets dunked in horse DUN; that stuff makes me H8 the ranch life.
After about the 3rd time Mull's (in the pic) grabs the water hose out of the trough and makes a huge mess, it gets to be a bytch and a half.................

So you gotta shuck the stables and feed the horses, think of it as being closer to the mountains on sat/sun mornings. You are already getting up early to tend the animals so you'll be at Mothers before any of the squids. My suggestion, drink more coffee!!!
I prefer my horses about 120 at a time!

I'd trade you places ANY DAY! If I could have my bike AND horses I'd be in heavan! I shoveled horse crap, trained other people's horses for competition, gave riding lessons, and trained my own horses for over 15 years at my Mom's ranch in Arizona. This was while I was growing up...from 3rd grade up until my Senior year I would wake up at 5:00am, feed the horses, ride my bike to school, attend cross country practive at 6:00am, go to school, then once I got back from school, I'd spend the rest of the 4-5 hours of day light cleaning stalls, riding my own horses, training others, squeeze in a riding lesson for someone, and then feed the horses before I headed in for the day. We had about 15 horses to take care of and my only help was my sister. Two 100lbs girls doing ALL the work. You bet your butt I was tired....but I LOVED it! Let me know if they need any hired help! :) haha

not saying that I dont like having them or riding them, just that the pain is not near the payoff compared to just having a motorbike.
was thinking of having everyone over for a swim if the pool ever gets fixed, no luck so far....

Dang, you were hardcore. I rode horses quite a bit when I was a kid. Then I got a mountain bike when I was 13 or 14 and never rode a horsie again.

You best watch your mouth boy!
We race them nationally out of Ohio. :nerd: It's a pretty interesting sport based on a pigeon's ability to fly back to it's place of birth.
Check it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pigeon_racing
As far as being "rodents with wings," they are actually incredibly clean animals. Ours are treated annually with vaccines to prevent disease and provided with vitamins and lots of exercise to make them super fast. :guitar:
Some people who have raised and/or raced pigeons: Pablo Picasso, Mike Tyson, Charles Darwin, Walt Disney, Clint Eastwood, George Foreman, and Marlon Brando.

My brother eats em. Ticks me off.
Then I just tell Dad he killed some pigeons, and he's in massive trouble. Last pigeon he ate was worth about $500.

Pigeons used to piss me off b/c they would eat all our chickens food! I always threw rocks at them!
