As the title says, i'm trying to find some removable hip armor that i can wear with normal pants. i still have rods in my hip and plates/screws in my knee, and i do not want to go down on those two areas without anything protecting them. So, i am hoping to find some armor that's easy to take off, i'd rather not wear full leathers or crazy protective pants/undergarments when just going to a friends house and stuff like that.
I have found some OK knee protection that's removable, but can't find anything like that for the hip. Hopefully, someone can point me in the right direction :)

Looking for something i might be able to take off without having to take off my pants :P
thanks though :)
If i can't find anything removable, i'll probaly get some textiles pants or the Dainese hip armor.

Actually, its funny you guys are looking into hip armor. Any football player is sick of his hip armor. I would always cut mine up to make 'em smaller... anyway
I wear my old football pads girdle/shorts under my leathers. They are nice and thick, but very tight - and still comfortable. It would be really easy to pick up some smaller pop-warner football hip pads at Sports Chalet (about $10) and actually use the football pads in the football girdle.
The pads can be any range of thickness from an 1/8" several inches thick - so I'm sure you could find somethign that both fits inside your gear, and still gives ya plenty of protection.
Btw the shorts are the most expensive part (~$35)

***EDIT***
oops, didnt see that part about wanting to wear them with normal pants... I guess you could wear the under shorts and just slip out the hip pads when you get somewhere. The shorts alone just feel like thick boxer briefs, the actual football pads slip in and out pretty easily.

Not bad, that's probaly as close as i'm going to get to what i am looking for. Thanks for the help :)

Yea np - glad football ends up being good for something...
Im somewhat new to the forums (a month or so) - how did you end up with rods in your hips? Track? Street?
If you dont mind me asking that is :errf:

np, it was street. A car ran a red light and pulled out right in front of me back in 2004. Broke my right hip, femor, and hand. I'm actually not sure what exactly happened to my hip, the doctor never really told me about it and i never saw any x rays of the fracture, just x rays after the rods were in and the hip was healed. I probaly should of asked, but i was focused more on my femor and knee area.

Im really srry man, that sounds horrible.
Femur... arg. Ive done some ski patrol, and femur breaks are ugly. Were you out cold after the crash? I hope so. The strong quad muscles pull the splintered bone back into the leg cutting up soft tissue and sometimes arteries. Bleeding to death from that is actually the most severe danger of femur breaks. Ugh. Traction splint ftw! Glad to hear youre back on the street!

Thanks man, and nah, i never lost consciousness. I remember, when i finally stopped rolling, i checked myself out, and saw my leg. i remember thinking, "well, this is going to hurt in about 5 seconds when i calm down" and uh...yea, i was right :P
What sucked the most about the femor break though, is that i had to have my femor surgically rebroken about a year ago to straighten it =/
now i'm just trying to decide on leaving all the plates/screws/rods in or have them taken out, i'll probaly have to at least remove the rods...they kill me everyday.

How well to the football shorts breathe? Do they have tailbone coverage that can be removed? A back protector and tailbone pad seems like it could be pretty bulky. I've been looking for hip armor as well since my suit is a little loose around my thighs. I was thinking about these SixSixOne shorts from Cycle Gear, but I need to try them on to see how they feel.

Actually, if you check out the link, you buy a pair of shorts that have 5 pockets. Then you buy the pads you want. So, you could put in the hip armor and leave the tailbone armor out.
