View Full Version : Going over a crest while leaned over

So what is the bike doing in terms of suspension and weight distribution when one is leaned over and cresting a hill... something like T6 at WSIR and moreso at Lost Hills at Buttonwillow.

I tend to clench up on those turns because I figure that the front and then the rear is getting lighter as soon as you crest the hill and that I may lose grip.

What should one do?

with the speed we're going at... i don't think its that big of a deal.
and plus its not a straight fly off... so i think your tire has pretty good traction.

biggest thing that has helped me with lost hill, is picture the turn in your head...
and then look through the hill. kind of like imagining where the turn will go.
dunno if that makes sense. :ha:

I don't need to do that, I have x-ray vision

jeff, what gets most people in trouble is they tend to stay to rigid and fuzed to the bike. get your corner set up and get that head cranked to look as far as you can and stay LOOSE on the bike.
let the bike do it's thing. it will move underneath you and normally eat it up and be fine.

when you're rigid on the bike and all clenched up, you're not allowing the bars to dance at which transmits it all thru the bike. relax

its kinda like a roller coaster huh...

the velocity is so great it takes a second or so for gravity to take place

i personally try and put more weight on the front tire as i go thru the turn. ive also tried letting off the throttle just before to keep the tires down.

I think it depends on the turn. Something like T6 at WSIR I just keep the throttle WFO, the front comes off the ground while your knee is still on the ground, you get a bit of head shake when it comes back down but it is smooth. At Button, I normally roll out of the throttle just a bit to keep the bike from "jumping" over the hill.

Jason has a video of the guy on the twisted racing bike passing him on lost hill almost dragging elbow. He shows that you can litterally fly over that hill fully leaned over and still be OK. You really have to see the clip to believe it. It's amazing.

So when you are going to start racing instead of just posting questions on all the local message boards regarding stuff you're nervous about?

BTW:

Here is a pic of the guy that passed Shaggy going over lost hills. I recognized him in the Superbike race at Laguna.

His name is Corey Sarros. He placed 24th in the event and was running laps around 1:30 in the race. Anyway, can't wait to get on the track with him again.

But he wants to know how bikes get over hills when really leaned over. I've seen buildings that lean more than that.
