Yeah, but the stuff is tough, full of worms, and most likely rotten horse meat. :puke:

There is a joint near state I favorite. I forgot the name, but I know the location.

dude....anyplace in escondido or poway cuz it's like $2.25 for a carne asada. Not like $5-$6 in and around La Jolla, carmel vally and del mar.

Fidel's in Solana is a great place..... great food, great women and more great women!

In Poway, it's El Ranchito.
There are 2 of them, and both are ok, but the one on Pomerado is slightly better.
And they have Tacos al Pastor!!!
And try the flautas. Bomb-diggidy.

santanas on morena is the only worthy santanas... vs. pb and that other location

its claims to be the home of the california burrito
"where the california burrito was born" if you will....

and they offer cool bumper stickers that say " i tamed the california burrito "

all in all... i don't like the california there at santanas too much, but its decent...

if you want a great breakfast burrito and california burrito for that matter
go to
Hector's in point loma... its near the West Marine i believe
hector's seasons their own potatoes, and uses whole diced potatoes in their cali burrito
versus french fries... but sometimes there is a time and place for french fries in a cali burrito (a la cotijas) cotijas also puts an egg in their cali burrito, so it can be "breakfasty"

The best Mexican soups (caldo de siete mares, oh damn it is good) are at La Especial Norte, in Leucadia on Hwy. 101.
Best carnitas is at Porkyland down in Barrio Logan, under the Coronado Bridge.

And for sit down places, Old Town Mexican Cafe is good, but not quite as good as Casa De Bandini (now Cosmopoliton) - both are in Old Town.
Also, Hernandez Hideaway is great - located right on Lake Hodges off Del Dios.

My neighbors own a place in esco called Hacienda De Vega, and they have great food, but hands down the best margaritas anywhere north of Cabo.... In fact, we should do a bike night there some time; they have an amazing outdoor area, too...

Oh, and the manager at the outdoor bar of Old Town Cafe rides bikes too... Haven't seen him in awhile but he's cool.

there was this place right across the street from fidel's called Don Choey, that served me a beer when i was like 15 or 16...

damn that was long ago...

and tony jakals isn't bad either.. right next to fidel's in solana beach...

oh yes... i know size doesn't matter, but lets think about $ to amount of food ratio...

cotijas in clairemont and olinda's have the market cornered

Well, I don't really like the cheddar cheese ones.. BUT, the ones at on the border are HUGE, filled with chicken and cheese, SPICY,and served with a melted cheese sauce to dip them in.... Also called "jalepeno butt poppers" by a certain other member of this board who, uh, I guess sufffered a blowout as a result of eating a couple of them :fart: :roflmao:

Not to mention the meltdown margaritas as pretty tasty to wash them not (not nearly as tasty as the Hacienda Tamarind Margaritas I mentionen earlier tho!). Damn, I think I'm gonna go get some mexican tonight. Er, Mexican food, that is.

And, if you don't believe me, show up to bike night early tomorrow; I'll be there having some with a friend...

cotijas - carne asada chips
santanas - totally custom veggie burrito
robertos - a pretty decent chicken taco tho I havent ordered these much
JVs- used to have a great veggie burrito but last time it wasnt so great
