View Full Version : Selling my RACE spot for August 12th

Hey everyone, I'm selling my trackday spot for August 12th. Due to complications with my truck, I can't afford to fix my trackbike in time to make it to the event. My truck lost oil on the way up to Laguna Seca and even after doing an oil change, the main bearings must have been worked too hard and are now dead. This means I need a new engine and that's pretty expensive. I'm going be be selling a car as well to help make the money for the engine, look for that post soon too.

My asking price is $90, since I cant really ask for the price I paid, race group isn't full. If anyone is interested, hit me up on my cell (in the signature at the bottom) or PM, but the cell is easier. If I don't answer, I'm at work or in class, just leave me a message with your name and phone number, i will get back to you.

Thanks everyone! Hopefully I can get this fixed to do some racing in the fall!

mike, lemme know, ill figure out how to get this to ya if you are interested. KC, same with you. let me know as soon as possible. either way, spots for race group arent at a premium, there are still plenty available as far as i know. but if you want one for a slight discount, im your man.

im bummed that i have to give it up, but i cant afford to fix the bike with the truck dead...the estimate is $6000 if the dealer does the work, but i might be able to pick up a block for half that and drop it in myself with a friends cherry picker.

KC, i did make it to the races, and they were awesome. next year i will triple check all the fluids and nuts and bolts before i take off. last year i spent one day fixing a short somewhere on my bike, this year the truck died... the damage started when i made it to santa cruz, and completely broke down on the return trip just south of king city off the 101. ill let ya know more about what happened in a PM if ya wanna know.

jeff, my truck isnt too new (a 98) and i put a hell of a lot of miles on it, somewhere close to 180000, but i dont know for sure since my odo and speedo have been off for years due to the larger tires. but no worries, if i can afford it, since im getting a new block anyway, i think im gonna upgrade to the lightning internals with forged pistons, rods, and crankshaft. those should last a freaking long time. ill let ya know more about what happened in a PM if ya wanna know too.

i may just catch a ride up there and hang out with you all since i already have the day off, wouldnt mind just hanging out with my riding buddies.

What truck do you have? A 350 small block crate engine would be cheaper than a rebuild and waaaay cheaper than 6k...

nice cyanide...i wasnt gonna say anything though...hehe

and aaron, its gonna be cheaper to get the motor and drop it in myself...taking the busted 5.4 out and putting a reman 5.4 in is basically plug and play. disconnect from the tranny and mounts, and manifolds, pull it out, and plug the new one with identical wiring and manifolds right in...once i can afford it, it will only take a weekend to do the work, which is pretty nice.

still no takers? i know its not much of a discount, but let me know!

If you're factoring in labor with the engine swap, I can help limit that to a case of beer. I may not be a certified mechanic, but I can do engine swaps...

Captain G Force

yeah, my buddies and i have a cherrie picker and were going to do an LS1 swap on a 3rd gen RX-7, but all thats happened so far is the old rotary is out and sitting in the garage. if you want to be part of the fun when i do pull the block, ill be letting ya know for sure, but this weekend is all about getting the truck back here, and worrying about fixing it when i get some extra cash.

rich, i dont want to give up my spot, but the gixxer isnt trackworthy right now, the plastics dont mount right from a lowside in december and i cant get them fixed in time, and the chain needs replacing...its a little rusted from having to have been outside for 2 and a half months while i was kinda homeless. i would bring the bandit, but since that is my only working mode of transportation right now, im definitely not going to risk it considering my recent luck on the two other street legal vehicles i have. and lord knows i dont want to borrow a roommates bike for this, just in case something were to happen i wouldnt want to be responsible for ruining their bike. it is killing me just thinking about having to give it up, ive been looking forward to this for a very very very long time. anyway, if you have other suggestions, im open to keeping the spot if nobody wants it or if i can get either some plastics or work done on the bike before the event...

How bad is you chain? Did you try just cleaning the rust off the chain with a brush. I've had rusty chains and was able to clean most of it off with dubya-d and one of those chain brushes. If you wanna try it you can borrow my brush.

If you don't feel that it's safe then don't even mess with it, though. I actually think I have an old un-used chain laying around that I'm never going to use now that I got the SV. Do you have 520 or 530 sprockets?

As far as the plastics, are you missing peices, or just need to re-mount and make everything fit again? I know a pretty cool dude that used to have a bike exactly like yours that needs to mount bodywork on his new gixxer 1K. Sounds like we could have a bodywork day. I wouldn't mind helping both of you guys get track prepped since I don't have much to do with a naked SV.

I would say the outlook isn't too bad for you making this trackday. Worst comes to worst, can you run the bike without plastics? Without the lower???

dang lee that sucks it didn't make it home, it didn't sound happy in santa cruz. Did it seize up while driving? Let me know if you need help with the swap or a place to do it, we could do it at our shop in lakside (could put a cage in that piece at the same time :ha: )

well i will have to let ya know Bill if i can do some work on the bike before hand...since im using all of saturday just driving to and from santa maria to get my truck, i dont know if i will have time between work and school now to get all the work done i need. ill post up pics of my plastics tomorrow before i take off for work so i can show you what i mean.

jesse, she died on the way home, but didnt seize, she still turns over, but its pretty thrashed. the main bearings are gone and some of the pushrods from what the dealership guess-timates. i agree, the sound that started after i was thru king city was insane...ill let ya know when that fun happens as far as swapping blocks, should be a blast...

Wish I could, but I need to be with my family right now. I know it is a bit of a drive, but I was thinking about Sept. 2,3 or the 23,24 at Reno-Fernley something like 4 miles long 20+ turns. Should be cool

Mike...Reno Fernley blows TREES full of squirrels. Its bumpy as hell, I mean ridiculously bumpy, and very tight and narrow, except for the straight which is so long its silly. The whole thing makes it impossible to gear your bike correctly. Though on a twin it might not be much of a problem, low torque range and all.

seriously, last time i went on the fast side i was riding with a guy and his front fairing stay froke due the the bumps/ vibrations, granted he didnt have his lowers on, so the weight was not properly distributed, but damn the fast side really tests your suspension

Usually I don't elect to go cook in Lancaster, however Jen-E-Bean is my co-worker and it will be her first trackday, so I'd like to go plus I'm going to try to set up my 600 and I need a trackday to do it. Are you going? or is everyone ignoring your posts too?

not ignoring the posts...sorry guys...ive had some things ive needed to do so i didnt really log on to check out posts or PMs...sorry to those who sent em...

as of today, i can afford to fix my bike, but i wont know until this weekend what the deal is. it will be the first time in a long time i get to go over the bike in a bit more detail and see how much work it is...i will let KC and peanutbritt know about the spot by saturday night for sure! sorry about the suspense and the closeness to the event, but at first i was pretty overwhelmed with all the expensive bad things that had happened and the school screwing up my financial aid, and now with suggestions that i hadnt thought about for salvaging my track day, i think im gonna hold out until this weekend...for both of you though, spots are definitely still available without me selling mine, so if all else fails, you can still go. check out deathblows post too for selling his spot, thanks for checking it out.

like i said, im going to try to be there, bike or no bike, so we shall see.

I have a few 525 chains... you can have one for free if you run 525 sprockets.

Bodywork isn't necessary... work on the critical stuff first!

Captain G Force
08-06-2006, 03:27 AM
well the update is im keeping the spot, i fixed the body work to do good enough for the trackday (red and black duct tape and some ghetto fiberglass working), and the chain was fine, just needed some TLC from being a bit weathered, and it runs fantastic still, so all i need now is a way to get up there, ill see what i can do about that.

thanks everyone for the suggestions and the help, i hope to see you up there as soon as i can find a way to get my stuff there! sorry peanutbritt and KC, i do hope you got spots though!
