Hey all,
I just moved down here from Nor Cal where I sold my first ever bike (83' Honda Sabre 750 and rode for about 1.5yrs). I just wanted to introduce myself (I am eric) and ask you all a quick question:
Where should someone start looking for a motorcycle (used) that isnt on craigslist? The criteria for my future bike is as follows:
1) Used
2) Preferrably 2001 or newer
3) 600cc or 750cc (I will kill myself on a 1000cc)
4) Clean title
5) "Sportbike" designation (I don't discriminate against manufacturers) V-twin or I-4..it doesn't matter
6) I am really not looking to spend a lot, I am a thrifty shopper and will wait if I need to, even until it's pouring rain out and no one wants a bike then =)
Thanks in advance for all of your help!!

Welcome to the sight! I bought my bike brand new...so I can't really point you in the right direction as far as used bikes. Maybe check out tradeamotorcycle.com or google mountain motorsports. There's also the Cycle trader! Good luck!

I'd have to say the best spot to look for a used bike (or even a new one for a *****en price) is Palomar Mountain. Best time of year would infact be NOW, as squids a plenty flock to that longitutude and latitude all to flaunt talent that simply is not there (no matter how well their Icon jackets coordinate with their Levi silvertab jeans.)
Invariably the ego's soar there and the bikes are pushed far beyond their oporator's capabilities....leaving you with insurance by-back deals galore!
Have fun shopping:cheers:

So you are saying to wait atop the mountain, preferrably near a sharp blind corner and wait for someone to eat it while they are looking at my sign that says "I will buy your bike when you fall" hehe.

Don't spread this around though, as I too am hoping a 600 of my liking will crash and burn and walk away with cosmetic damage that could be writtend up as "totaled"

Well my story is a lot like yours. I was actually raised (not born) in SD and went up north for school. Graduated and came back down because Sd is awesome and I found a job.
Thanks for all the nice welcoming thoughts. How about we all caravan up to palomar and we can have multiple people with signs. Think about it, the more signs people are trying to read the less concentration they have on the road therefore the greater chance of us finding someone who will crash and we can claim their bike. This could work if it wasnt for the horrible feeling that i get when i think about people falling. Oh well, sucks to be human.
