Hi guys, I've been lurking around the board for some time but finally signed up. :nerd:

Anyhow, i'm in the market for my first bike of my own. I've been riding my friends ninja 250R since i got my license likea 2 yrs ago on and off.

Question 1: i got a friend who's willing sell me his 02 R6 with about 13k miles for $3900. The bike definitely has some body damage, fairings all scatched since he downed it. But it runs perfectly and well maintained. He's got all the maintainence records... How much would this bike still be worth in your guys opinion? Any specific things to look for?

Question 2: I took the MSF course like 2 yrs ago when i got my license, but i lost my DL-389 form, that paper they give you when u pass the course. Anyone know if i could get a copy of that form somewhere? I'm trying to get some discounts at some local stores and insurance coverage... :)

First, Welcome to the board!
1. 3900 seems to be a good deal if the bike is as you described. Just check for frame, swingarm, and subframe damage.

2. I do not know where you can get a replacement for that form except for MSF themselves. I recommend shopping for insurance before you buy that bike since its one of the most expensive.

thanks for the help! Yeah i'm definitely gonna take a close look at the bike before making any final decisions.

Any idea of the specific range for insurance on an r6? I'm 24 with a clean driving history with no accidents... my friend said his insurance was only $150/yr??? probably liabilty only for the other party.

It depends on how long youve had your license, experience, record, etc. There's a bunch of existing threads about insurance already. Read up on a few since they all have good info.

:werd: All about State Farm... well if you have more than one vehicle through them.

If that bike has only has cosmetic damage... $3900 is alright. Not a stellar deal by any means but not a complete rip off either.

Yeah SF's stuff varies from agent to agent. I called the Sate Farm 800 number and aasked them about gettin gtheft coverage on a salvage title bike. They said that's up to the agent. Sooooo apparently those guy sare given a lot of liberty with their pricing. Shopping around agent to agent might not be a bad idear.
