Why is this good or bad? What does it do?

Less mass...equals quicker acceleration....equals quicker wear on yur chain and sprockets (aluminum)....I had a 520 kit on my 02 gix and loved it..felt it right away..need help and im still around ..illsteal arnolds tools and slap that baby on

So should I also get new sprockets with the conversion?

you would have to...520 kit..means a 520 chain..plus sprockets for the that size chain...c..the chain is narrower than say a 530 chain...

Oh. Ok. How is the durability compared to stock? Remember I am totally ignorant.

it'll wear out alot easier than your stock chain...

I did the 520 conversion and it's good. I went with the Aluminum Sprockets and have no worries. Sure it will wear a little quicker but it wont be wore out to quick unless you're clutch'n alot of wheelies. In that case go with the steel sprockets.

Hey red r6, I went with the 520 conversion and I have 2 broken teeth on my sproket right now. If you are not racing your bike and absolutely need that extra acceleration, I would advise you not to do it. If you want, go three teeth up in the rear or one tooth down in the front. That will create more acceleration but you can still run a 525 or 530 chain and sprocket set without wearing it down too quick. You can still run steel in those sizes.

Cool thanks.:D
520 is usually a lil bit cheaper as well. But, if your not a track junkie/racer type then stick with the 525 or 530.
Is your bike stock gearing and chain. If so, you must change both the chain and sprockets at the same time because stock size is like 532 or some bs size that nobody makes.

i have about 21000 miles on my stock chain and sprockets....
would i need to swap em out soon?
I've got 18.5k on mine. Keep a close eye on them and try and keep them well lubed cuz they're on their way out prolly.:errf:

Yeah Josh, you might have to change 'em out soon, but like what Deno said, keep an eye on them.

I must be doing something wrong with mine cuz I have 18k on mine but I have allready done the 50 conversion at around 10k and now I am going back to 525 for the srength and durability of steel rather than aluminum. Oh yeah, is it better to use chain lube thats oil based or wax based? I have heard both ways.

Preference...thats what it boils down to. Ive got the honda stuff and have tried the maxima wax. I just dont like all that white crap all over....my shiz has got be bling ya huuurd.
plus the honda with teflon works great to clean your chain and sprocket
