FINALLY!! I got my bike together and took it out for my first SoCal voyage EVER!! We rode up/around Palomar- which was a great ride, except I think that the Mieff-inator was thinking :stupid: Harhar, but it's ok because in my mind I was more like this
For all the other newbs who might read this: I had heard horror stories of palomar mtn- I was envisioning bodies flying everywhere and people lowsiding right and left. FWIW, I saw nothing too scary at all. Just lots of nice scenery and twisty roads. :D Most of the riders up there were reasonable, and much more skilled than I am. I didn't have anyone do anything nutty like passing me on the inside around corners. I saw no accidents, but admittedly we only went up and down once. The squid brigade started showing up while we were on the way down- boy did they look cool :jackoff:
Maybe I'll see some of you up there next time. :woot:

What time were you up there? I went up at 8am and by noon, a GSXR had highsided into a guardrail, and a 1000RR had ran off into a ditch. Pmar claims at least 3 bikes every weekend I would say.
I was rollin with another black 600RR and a red 600RR both with telefonica stickers.

Yeah, I saw your bikes up at mothers, in fact, I almost stopped to talk to you because I think I work with the guy with the Black Telefonica bike (the one who wakes with wood :ha: ). I was up there at the same time (8-12)... but I didn't see the badness.

I'm in Vegas next weekend, but I'll definitely see you later, now that I know who I'm lookin for.
If your buddy with the Black Telefonica is around- I've got some commuting questions for him. Specifically, where does he store his gear? Is there a shower or locker room there? Do I need a special permit?? (I just started in July). Obviously, I don't want to discuss anything personal in a public forum, but if you (or he) could pm me some info about commuting to "our place of employment" if would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

You saw that too? I saw that on the way down just after the rider had crashed. Crazy thing was that on my way up not 8 minutes before I saw a family who stopped to take pictures of the scenery from that guardrail (or the one before, they all look the same) and I wanted badly to tell them that it probably wasn't very smart to be taking pictures in a potential bike flying hazard zone. Good thing they wern't there when the crash happened. It's one thing to high side your bike into the guard rail, it's another to highside it into a kid and knock him off the cliff. :errf:

were you parked on the very end (the soap factory end) against the rail? next to an R6?

Me? no, I was right next to you (next to a red R6).
I think I saw that Ducati 748 too (does it have an undertail exhaust?).
We went down the "fast" side, so maybe that's why I didn't see the accidents?
That's pretty sketchy about the highside- did it look like the guy was alright?

yeah it was a fun ride. it was actually kinda nice to ride palomar at a slower pace. i was able to take in a bit of its beauty instead of blazing by all the scenic views. :squid:

Haha, the dude with the 1000RR came into my work to get new frame sliders and a new brake lever right after it happend. Said he was trying to keep up with someone that had passed him :rifle:
Pmar claims at least 3 bikes every weekend I would say. Weird cause I have yet to see one on the weekend. Only accident I've ever seen up there was on a weekday. Even though I haven't been up there as much as some of you others, I have been surprised that I haven't seen as many, since I hear stories ALL the time.

I was following the guy on the Gixxer and his buddy on an R1 up the mountain. I got stuck behind a couple cars, and came up the carousel to see the accident. The rider was unharmed (thankfully). He lowsided going up, and went into the guardrail. His suit was barely rashed so he was lucky....the bike however was not. We tried to move the bike to that little driveway so there was less chance of it getting impounded, but were unable to get it very far since the frame snapped at the headtube :silenced: We proped it up out of the way against the guardrail, and after making sure he was alright, he rode doubles with his buddy down the mountain to go get a trailer. It put a damper on my day to see a fellow rider go down, so I took it easy down the mountain and went home.

Well I rode up and down couple of times but when I was up at the top, I stuck to mother side of the lot down by the soap factory (bottom of the incline). Had the 748 with the black wheels, not the completly stock one that was on the opposite "motorcycle only" parking side.
Yeah, I saw a guy riding 2 up on the way down, both in full leathers so I kind of figured it was him. Saw a guy in a truck looking at the bike back on my way down later on though but no rider.

No he lowsided. I was suprised that a couple cagers stopped to make sure the rider was okay. Anybody know if the bike got towed or if the rider was able to get to the bike in time with a trailer?

I saw a truck up their that I thought was to pick it up, but the bike was still there later. I think the bike is still on the mountain.
I thought it was a highside because of how bad the bike was, and where it was pointed, etc. Guess I was wrong, and I'm glad he's OK.

i think i know what turn that is. it's kinda close to the top right? a couple turns before that long right hand sweeper? it seems to get a lot of people, probably not as many as the big turnout but i've seen a fair amount of people lowside there.

The gixxers were known to snap a the headtube in an accident. Some have even snapped during race use.
