I was wondering if anyone else has done this. Basically routing the crankcase breather to the exhaust valves to create a vacuum in the crankcase.

I did it on mine. Removed evap cannister, fuel return pump, blah blah blah. Used 1/2" heater hose and routed breather to the KLEEN valves.

If you have, what if any problems have you run into? Shorter engine life? Burning excessive oil? I'm burning a little oil, but not too much to concern me since it's burning in the exhaust system and not in the combustion chamber (I sure as hell hope ;) )

Figured some of you racers would've done it. Any noticable performance gains. I didn't feel any power increase, but slightly better throttle response, assuming it's not psycho-somatic. I need to get a bolt on, though, cause I'm probably destroying the catalytic converter.

I guess my real question is.....is it worth it or should I just buy the block-off plates and route the crankcase to atmosphere???

My understanding is that this is the equivalent of the Suzuki PAIR mod.

What the !*!?*&$%@#$@# don't think I'll even bother responding to that one. My fellow Yamaha riders know B/S when we hear it!!! J/K:-p but you know you love em Los!

Hmmm didn't you have a 520 conversion and sprockets on your old Gixxer that was stolen? Not trying to give ya a hard time (maybe I am) but that sho aint stock bra mang!

you should be fine, many people do it on their r1's

but also....why not just get a crank care breather and block offs, is it that expensive? cant be more than 20 buck right.

but you wont be doing any damnage just to let you know

I've found the block off plates for 30 bucks. I'm not sure about engine-life, though. As far as I can figure out, this mod is essentially a less sophisticated PCV valve. The PCV valve tailors the amout of crankcase vacuum to engine RPM, to prevent excessive vacuum. This mod does the same thing, except for two differences.....It connects near the exhaust valves using reeds instead of to the intake system as in a car, and it has no way of preventing too much vacuum being created in the crankcase.

That's my reason for concern. High RPM vacuum pressure and smacking too much oil from the mist.

To be totally honest, most of the reason I did it was for a good excuse to take off that ugly emissions cannister on the left side of the bike. me=squid

Bill, how long did it take to do the whole process and did you notice any direct hp gains?

The hard part is finding all the little parts. Had to keep going looking for parts while doing it. It would probably only take about an hour start to finish. Real simple stuff, just remove a hose, cap it, repeat.....

Didn't notice any HP gains, but a slighty better throttle response. I probably couldn't even tell the difference between 105 and 110 peak horsepower, though. By the time it hits 10K RPM's, all I see is Jesus. Maybe in the mid-range I would notice.
