when i saw that, i didn't think it was funny. Fania could've had a broken rib or?? and getting kicked liked that was just plain inexcusable... yates acted foolishly...

let's see what happens from ama...

I agree. Yates actions were that of a six year old. Throwing a tantrum is one thing. Trying to injure someone is another. I hope the AMA takes this issue seriously.

Here is his press release, got it over at AMA Soup.

Yates' Statement on Daytona 200
by staff
Monday, March 08, 2004
Aaron Yates has issued the following press release:

Racing has extreme highs and extreme lows. It almost seems like there's no in-between when you race at the level that I do. For me, after racing 170 grueling miles, I realized that I had a chance to win the race.

With about eight laps to go, I came up on some lapped riders. I set up to pass, using the same racing line that I'd been using on this part of the track all day - in both the 200 and in the 600 SuperSport race.

I came through on the brakes on the outside and in my peripheral vision I saw a rider stand his bike up. So I got on the brakes harder and stood my bike up a bit to give him some room. But I was running out of racetrack.

We went down and were sliding toward the wall and I was honestly thinking that I was going to break both of my legs. Thankfully, the impact was softer than I'd anticipated. I got up thinking that I'd raced 49 laps with eight left to go and a second-place finish in the Daytona 200 was down the drain.

I couldn't believe that this was actually happening. But I never had any intention of hurting anyone. The last thing that I want is for people to get hurt at the track. This is not the way that I wanted to look back on Daytona '04. And this is definitely not what I want the race fans to think of when they think of me.

I'm just so sorry that the whole incident ever happened. And I'm sorry if my actions offended or disappointed anyone.

Aaron Yates

Totally!!! I used to like Yates, although he is quite known for these type of aggresive manuevers involving privateers. I hope he gets suspended for this season, there is no way he should be attacking anyone that has just crashed.

Here is Yates doing the same thing to Kim Nakas:

Yates is a biatch....what a punk...

What's Fania doing pointing at his crotch?
"Hey Yates! Why don't you suck my ****!"

Haha....I thought the same thing at first... "Did they photochop Bryant into that picture?"

But then I realized it's really Anthony Gobert....

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner! Kim was saying how both Gobert and Yates signed an 8X10 for him of that pic :).

ok first all of you lay off yates, unless you have been in a race situation (and before you ask yes i raced for a season CMRA #513) you can't know what it's like to have a lapper in front of you mess up his line because he is in over his head and take you out, which if you watch the vid you can clearly see fania going in way too hot and standing the bike up. while i don't condone yates actions after the crash, as someone who has been taken out by lap traffic i can surely sympathize with his anger

I think either way, bad move trying to pass a lapped rider on the outside. Yikes had to be about 6-9 seconds faster than him per lap... I think trying to push and squeeze in the risky pass before that turn was a bit of a greedy move, and was a risky pass inside or outside at that point into the turn, unless he had a clear open line. Anyone that's done some racing knows that it's your responsibility as the faster rider to pass responsibly and safely. Of course on the other hand, if you're being passed (not necesarily lapped), it's your responsibility to maintain your line.

I completely agree, thats why i didn't agree with his reaction. And Fania's inability to hold his line didn't help matters either. they both messed up. and to quote a really great crew chief " rubbin's racin!!" :-p :-p

I actually liked Yates before this incident. My main complaint was that he was physically attacking someone that just crashed. Fania could have been really injured and here he is being drop kicked.

I've been alright. Haven't been riding ever since the last practice session at WSMC back in October or November..? So yes I forgot how to ride again... How about you dude? You still thinking of doing some racing around here? WERA started a league in the west coast. If you're interested, you should talk to Bryant, who's planning on running a few with them. And WSMC is still there, but I think a lot of people have been showing more interest with WERA in the recent days.

As for Yikes, violence does not solve anything... of course except for self-defense.(and war vs the bad guys)

It's his responsibility to pass....Yates came right on top of Fania....not like he had time to get out of the way....all Yates fault..no getting round it.....

Oh yeah...and this is just funny...
