hey question... i'm thinking about getting my bike's aftermarket jet kit fine tuned on the dyno at lee's... anyone had any work done their? how are they?
i have this major distrust of mechanics so i'm very weary to give my hard earned money to people unless they've got a good rep and do good work... can anyone else recommend them or anyone else for jet kit fine tuning?
thanks

If your gonna get jets tuned, Lee's in the only place in SD I would think about. they will do a good job, but you'll pay for it.

Ive been to them. Tuning takes about a day, and they raised their price from 250 to 300 now. My bike made some pretty good power. Is your jet kit already installed? cause if not, installation is included in the price. Saves you a bit of time that way. I do suggest though, that you get most of the other mods you want to do on before you tune.
As for another shop, i was thinking about L&L, but he's up near Willow Springs. I hear there is this great Kawi shop in Escondido, sorry but i dont remember their name. Maybe Advance Kawasaki?

If you don't mind driving up to Oceanside, Kurt Jordan of Jordan Engineering is the man!
I'm sure if he's still around but he only works by appointment only and doesn't have a problem telling you NO if he can't work or doesn't want to work on your bike.

Please get a baseline run! Last time a person talked to me about getting there bike tuned at lee's they never got a baseline run...and for all he knew they never even tuned it they could have just done a HP and TQ pull and printed it! I know they can do good work there, I guess it all depends on the day of the week!

lee's sucks.....big time.....i had my motor rebuilt there last year they are ****s and they did a half ass job putting my bike back together for all the money i spent......plus it took them way too long to do my bike was there over 1 month. after i got it back i had bolts rattling loose the first time i took it out ended up with oil everywhere and they basically told me to fook off when i complained.

L&L's won't mess with jet kits no more... fuel injection only.

+1 for Jordan Engineering! He'd be my #1 choice as well for anything tuning related. He builds awesome motors and even built Frank Aragaki's monster motors back in the day when he used to be an active Privateer Racer. This guy knows his stuff! His life is about tuning motorcycles and the last time I hung out with him... he was getting into building his own custom exhaust systems (nearly 6 years ago... )

I havent had a problem with lees. Most of the complaints i hear usually regard major engine work. Tuning-wise, no problems.

Thats the first complaint I have ever heard about Lees. Usually the guys there are way cool, straight up, and no Bull$hitting. I used to have everything done by them when I lived in SD. I really do miss Lees.

Well not to bash on Lee's since Jeremy really established that shop but I had an issue a while back when I brought them my lower triple clamp to have the bearings removed and a new set of aftermarket bearings pressed it.
Issue #1)I brought it to them first thing in the morning. Jeremy took care of it and told me to come back around lunch time. Cool, works for me. I come back down on my lunch break to pick it up and the damn lower bearing is upside down. How can someone really mess this up since the original bearings where still on there to begin with!?! So they said to come back before they close. That means I have to leave work early, sit in southbound 15 traffic just to catch them b4 they close. No biggie, the world is filled with sacrifices!
Issue #2)I play hookie an bail work early... I get down to Lee's b4 5 and they have the bearing on correctly. As I unwrap it to examin it, WTF... there's a pretty big chunck of metal grinded off the triple stem!?! I question Jeremy about it and he calls one of the mechanics to the front.
The idiot explains himself for a bit stating that he messed up, Jeremy apologizes, and only charges me for 1/2 hr.
All in all, they've had mechanics come and go, so they're not a really well ran shop, BUT they are probably the most mechanically inclined motorcycle shop in San Diego.

hmmm... i'm very wary of these type of ordeals as i'm super anal about my bike and who touches it... i don't know if i should drop the bike off at lee's or keep tuning by my ass dyno... or drop it off some place else... i do know that lee's has the ec997 dyno that factory pro rants and raves about as opposed to the dynojet dyno... not sure what to do as of yet...

glen of nc hypersports has made a big name for himself in the race world prior to owning his own shop....he doesn't do any of the work in the shop anymore besides the dyno tuning from what i understand.....but he is suppsed to be the best around at it. dyno tuning is an art some guys can do it ok and some can do it relly well....
if you want it done right at least avoid lee's and thier crappy service...they will have your bike for a week at leat and charge you up the ass for a few hp..... in all honesty why do you want your bike dyno tuned in the first place are you racing? was you're kit professionally installed?

Doesn't really matter why he wants to get it tuned, why do any of us mod our bikes? cuz we want to and we can.

Another good place that I heard does good dyno tuning is Mach 1 up in Costa Mesa. I haven't delt with them personally but I've read a lot of threads about these guys pulling some nice HP figures.

I think Lee's use to be great back in the day. They lost a few really good mechanics.....Phil and Evan. I haven't dealt with them much since they lost those two guys but it does seem like they raised their prices significantly since I've had them do major work.

Had them do my suspension too. They fit me right in and got me out in around a 1/2 hour. The bike felt so much better after they did the setup.

I had them do my suspension the first couple times. I thought they did a great job until i had Dave Moss adjust it. You find out that tuners have different preferences. They may all get sag identically, but rebound and compression may differ. Its all on preference. They must do a great job if Toye is usually gettin 1st in the T200.

You have to get to know these guys. Jeremy is no BS and will tell it like it is. Also, Steve and Jody are good mechanics. I have had them do all of my mods, but haven't done motor work. No problems, but I have heard horror stories from others.

I had Lee's do my jet kit and dyno tune a few months ago. It took them all day to do it, but at the end of the day it was done right. Before taking it there the bike was hesitating and running hot. Now it runs mint. I would recomend them
