So it’s been about 2 months since my accident and I finally mustered up enough courage to get back on the bike and go for a nice long ride (keep in mind, I’ve been riding around town but nothing longer than a 30 min commute). So, 9am on Saturday morning I get up and put my brand new leathers on for the first time (courtesy of GPTechman)… and head out the door to gas up for a day trip to S. Lake Tahoe.
From Sacramento, I head south on I5 towards Lodi (20 mins) and met up with a few friends. We head out east on hwy 88, then to hwy 89 which takes us straight to S. Lake Tahoe. Of course we had a few stops on the way, took a few pics… but the ride kept to a nice mellow pace. The roads were wide open, not too many cars on the road, and nice long sweeping turns…. Did I mention that the weather couldn’t have been more perfect (78F) all day!
By the time we made it to Tahoe (3:30pm), we were starving and in desperate need of a bathroom! The next thing I knew, we were pulling into IHOP… I know what you’re thinking, out of all the places to stop in Tahoe, we had to stop and eat at an IHOP... it remains a mystery to me. But anyway, the food was great (not sure if it was because I was really hungry, or just craving a bit of breakfast food in the afternoon!) We finished close to 5pm and seriously debated on whether or not to stay the night in Tahoe or battle our way down the mountain in the dark. Long story short, like the champs we were, we decided to head down the mountain before it got too late.
So, we’re moving along westbound on I80 and we decided to make one more pit stop before we hit the bottom of the hill, so we stopped in a little place called Placerville (a quite town were the locals still sport the mullet). So now it’s dark and we’re all really tired and realize that we should have just stayed the night (ironically, would be a lot closer to just turn around at this point, instead of continuing on to Sac). But of course, we already made it this far… might as well keep moving. At this point, I get hungry again and see that we could either grab a bite to eat at Carrows or try our luck at the local Buttercup Pantry……… so, Carrows it is! After filling our bellies with some hot coco and a couple of plates of fried food, we’re off! So, 13 hours later, I finally made it back into Sacramento, pulling into the drive way around 10pm! Lucky for me, my ride was over… as for the friends I met up with…. Well, let’s just say that they had another 45 mins left to go on the freeway!
Probably the last time I will attempt to ride to Tahoe in one day… but a great ride nonetheless!! Did even get the chance to hit the casinos! :errf: Bummer, maybe next time! :guitar:
