I'm installing my rear L.E.D turn signals on a 03 R6. I had regular short stalks before this and I was able to use wire connectors(no cutting). The new signals require me to cut and splice the stock wires. I did this but can't get the turn signals to work. I can get them to light up but not trigger the turn signal mechanism.

The stock wires consist of 6 total:2 smaller wires for the license plate light (not the problem) and two sets of wires for the turn signals. On one side they are black and green for the other side black and brown. The trouble is that my L.E.D's each have three wires: blue black and yellow. I can't get the damn thing to work?????????????

mmmm k first things first..what kinda of sigs did you buy? When I did mine I discovered that there are three wires for each side, one is for the ground, one is for the continues running light, and one is for the intermitent turn sig light. I don't recall the colors right now but hopefully Sir Stroble will chime in and recall using his steel mind trap and be able to help. I would hope that the sigs came with instructions and if not perhaps you could call them and say WTF? If you have a voltage tester and touch the red tester to the wire and the black one to a ground it should tell you what you got. For example one of the wires should be dead (ground), one of the wires should read constant 12V and finally one should read intermitent 12V. If that doesn't work, do what John and I did and plug everything back in and cut one wire at a time. Hope all this mambo jambo helps. Sorry not at home right now where I can see my bike.

I'll give you a call tomorrow (Wednesday) and we'll get it all sorted out...

You still planning on coming over?

You mean you're supposed to make them blink somehow??? And you actually do this on a regular basis??? I thought the point was to make them so small nobody could see them even if you DID use them. :-p

Yeah bro I was still planning on it:D . If I can't get the blinker wiring crap sorted out in the morning than hopefully we can take care of that tomorrow night. Hopefully I'll have that done though :mad:...Give me a ring when you're ready.

Cesar thanks for your reply bro it actually did make sense. However, I said to hell with it for the night and decided it's best if I get some rest. BTW, I got the Libertek L.E.D fender eliminator. They provide online directions, but don't discuss any of the wire splicing and connecting.

This is the R6's wiring according to the service manual on this board..... It's for '99-'02, but should be the same.

Chocolate (Ch) - Left rear turn signal (flash)
Dark Green (Dg) - Right rear turn signal (flash)
Black (B) - ground

I'd bet a dollar and a lollipop that your LED's are like so......

Blue - constant (running light)
Yellow - flash (intermittent)
Black - ground

I would connect as follows.....

Left signal
LED blue -> Hot license plate light (blue?)
LED yellow -> Chocolate
LED black -> Black

Right signal
LED blue -> Hot license plate light (blue?)
LED yellow -> Dark green
LED black -> Black

You may not feel comforatable splicing the thin license plate light wires, but since LED's use little current, it should be fine. If you want to, you can splice the Blue/Red (constant) wire from your brake light to the blue constant lights on the LED's. The wires are probably thicker.

If for some reason your LED's have yellow-constant and blue-flash, just swap wires above.

Good luck. :D

Okay damnit they're defective:mad: :mad: :mad: . nI've tried every combination and no blinky! The blue wire is unnecessary unless I want running lights.

When I splice the black (ground) wires together and the yellow/green & yellow/brown wires together no matter what combination I use they don't blink!. Only run with no blinking. Did they give me some screwed up lights? They do get very bright like the blinker light should be as compared to the running light. THEY WILL NOT F'in BLINK DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do tech support for a company that writes insurance claim software <places gun in mouth>.;)

Went to KU for computer engineering but never finished. Don't have any motorcycle repair training or anything like that, but it's something I really enjoy to do (not for a job, though). Don't have too much experience wrenching on bikes, but I read about it all the damn time cause it seems to be all I'm really interested in. I rebuilt the first bike I bought (1976 Honda CB750K) and got it running. Changed my life. Few months later I rode it to sunny San Diego. Now I've got 6 bikes in my garage and no car. :holymoly: Bought my 636 and now I'm a poserific stunna that likes to bling fo' tha ladies. Oh yeah, I have a fiance, so don't tell her I said that. :-p

Shaggy and Bodmaster and others here freakin skool me on bikes, though. Someday, however......long from now.......the student will become the master.:jackoff:

SQUID!!! Rode 1600 miles in shorts and a t-shirt. I'm a little smarter now, but not much. Pic is in Utah thanks to old lady in RV. Hey, at least I wore socks. :rolleyes:

I'll post this up just in case anybody is curious or runs into this problem in the future. My rear L.E.D turn signals would not blink because I am running aftermarket flushmounts in the front as blinkers and running lights. Because they are not L.E.D's I can only run them as blinkers and not running lights. Once I changed the wires on the front to be blinkers only every thing worked just fine:errf: . The front signals actually blink brighter now too:D.

Damn squid:-p ! I didn't know you from Utah Bill. You made it a long ways out here bro! I've been to Prove once before and it is quite different from SD. Unfortunately my stay there was very short, but I know you miss those winters. Fresh powder for days on end in those mountains...
