...ouch! So if you've ever gone from the 56-E to the 15-S, you know that there's a deadly turn there. It's a right angle (going from one freeway to the other), which continues turning (almost like making a u-turn). Well, today there was some gravel in the corner of the turn that I hit while leaned over almost all the way. I lowsided and slid into the gravel of the side of the road (hooray gear!). I think I came out of it better than the bike. The whole right lower fairing is tore up and cracked, and my rear brake pedal is bent to hell. My front wheel also took a little damage, but it seems okay. I walked away with a little scrape on my knee, a scrape/burn on my elbow (from the inside of my jacket), a little soreness, and a bruised ego. Moral of the story: watch those blind corners (especially decreasing radius turns), don't get too careless, and most importantly, wear your gear. I was very thankful for it as I was sliding across the pavement.
Ride safe you guys.

Glad you hear you're not injured Matt! My first fall was from gravel. THe stuff sucks. I've been around that interchange a couple of times and I really don't like it much. Is your bike is running with no problems? Just cosmetic scratches?

That turn scares the crap out of me, even if I'm in a car. And I always see gravel and loose dirt there too, cuz of all the construction. Good thing you're ok. :)

Glad you are no worse for wear. Just out of curiousity... Do you wear an AlpineStars jacket?

Glad to hear your okay. Yep gear is your friend, im all amazed how people some times just ride with a helmet and nothing but a t-shirt and shorts.

matt,
glad to hear you're okay....i was going to take that same turn and thought twice about taking it fast. I noticed that they changed the way traffic enters that turn and I slowed down saw the same gravel there a few days ago. Sucks it took you out. I have not talked to Breena...was she with you? This must have happened yesterday...excited to see a certian cyclechick?
btw, why were you leaned over almost all the way on street? I thought you only do that @ femmoto! :) j/k-glad it's just your ego that's hurt and not anything else.

Okay, you got me. I was seeing how hard it would be to ride my bike w/ water balloons stuffed down my shirt and a wig. If I'm gonna keep ridng at femmoto I gotta keep up the disguise. Apparently I need to go with socks or something, cause the water balloons threw me off. :squid:

Yeah I heard about the bad news. I kinda feel like it was my fault. I think I overworked him last night. By the way Rad, we need new shower doors.....and a new banister for the stairs.......and you know that home gym in the extra room?.....yeeeaahhh......= )

Yeah, it's all cosmetic. I hafta bend the brake pedal back into place, switch out my old plastics with the newly messed up ones, replace the turn signal (which I may have an extra), and put a big band-aid on my confidence in making right turns on my scuffed up tires. The bike is running okay so far, but I'm gonna have it checked out just in case.

Dang Matt! Sorry to hear about your lowside! My first accident happened on an on-ramp too. You never know what's around that corner (gravel...or in my case, stopped traffic) so I guess it was a lesson learned. :) Take care you!

OMFG overworked him... shower handles... :roflmao:
It is always a very admirable thing to come clean on a crash and let everyone learn from it! You have such a good attitude :)
Glad you're ok Matt!
(By the way, Alpinestars has a new orange jacket that made me think of you!)
