I was told by the attendants today that the normal location where we park our bikes in Gilman are being converted to metered parking for cars. The place we are suppose to park now is now the opposite side of that floor. He said it is more room back there, BUT it looked like there wouldn't be enough pedestrian traffic.

I saw the sign for the "additional" motorcycle parking, but I didn't think it meant that they were going to put more car meter's up. =( I guess I'll have to go check it out again later. But yeah....highly doubtful there will be enough foot traffic in Gilman. There were already too many bikes getting stolen as is.....*sigh*

I smell it to and boy does it smell bad.... Maybe it should be the clubs mission to protect all riders and push UCSD to actually do something.

damn i saw the new motorcycle parking, i thought it was just additional? did they take away the original parking spots? . is this even much of a hypercycles issue as we already discourage people from parking in gilman?

i didnt think Gilman parking was soo bad before. i parked my r6 there for about a week and a half with only a lil lock thing going around the rotor, and i mean little chain. but the old parking was right next to the exit which made the bikes very visible to anyone walking outside or even a cop that would happen to be cruisng by, but hte new parking has very little to no pedestrian traffic and for anyone to see a bike getting stolen or vandalized someone would actually have to walk into Gilman Parking structure and walk toward teh motorcycle area. I actually live in sixth so GIlman is the closest motorcycle parking area by far, and having to stay over-night, there's really no other alternative, since anywhere else the whole bike would get wet and mess up my chain.... ahhh. goood thing i just bought a good chain for it. hehe. so hopefully all goes well.

the spots that were motorcycle parking in gilman last year - at least the half next to the elevator, didnt they just convert them from metered parking for bikes at the beginning of last year? and now they're converting them back?

I kinda like the new parking...it's a little easier to go in and out. Also, there's more places to secure your bike to something solid (like a 2ft wide concrete pillar). I don't like how it's away from the foot-traffic though. AND I wish they'd open the blinds so the people in the parking office could see the bikes...what's the point of having that window if they're not gonna use it? I think it'd really turn away bike theives and make it a much safer place to park.
